K.P. Joseph is a distinguished freelance journalist who investigates government fraud in India and advises on financial reform.  His articles have appeared in The Times of India, The Hindustan Times, The Hindu, The Indian Express, The Economic Times, The Financial Express, The Statesman, Business India, and Economic and Political Weekly.  He began his journalism career in 1981 after retiring from service in the Indian government, where he served - among other roles - as Accountant General of Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala.  In 1997, at the age of 75, Joseph uncovered  a major government pension fraud in which funds were paid out to non-existent persons; the total amounted to $20M+ in the state of Bihar alone.

Joseph is the co-founder of India’s first state chapter of
Transparency International, the Berlin-based anti-corruption NGO.  He started professional life as a college lecturer in English Literature in his native state of Kerala, and has been recognized for his academic research related to Italian Renaissance art.
